Renault, always on the lookout for expanding markets, recently unveiled a special version of its Duster SUV, specifically designed for the Indian market. Presented in Chennai, this model aims to capture an audience eager for new offerings, while asserting India’s position as a strategic pillar in the French automaker’s international strategy.
A Duster like no other
A few weeks ago, Renault launched the Filante, a crossover developed at its South Korean plant, intended for India before being exported to other Asian countries, but not to Europe. This time, the Duster takes center stage. At its latest event, the manufacturer presented a model designed exclusively for the Indian market, a special version of the Duster that proudly displays the name DUSTER in uppercase on its grille, replacing the traditional diamond logo of the brand.
A clear ambition for India
Fabrice Cambolive, the general director of Renault, emphasized the importance of India in the company’s international development strategy. With factories in South Korea, Turkey, Morocco, and Latin America, India is positioned as a major growth axis for the brand. “As part of the Renault International Game Plan 2027, India is becoming an essential pillar of our growth outside of Europe,” he stated, adding that the Chennai plant benefits from a robust ecosystem combining design, engineering, and assembly.

Renault Duster (India)
This new Duster represents a significant milestone in Renault’s renewal in India. “We have the means to support our ambitions, to better understand customer expectations, and to offer products tailored to this market,” Cambolive specified. A strong commitment that resonates with the rise of the Indian middle class, eager for modern and accessible vehicles.
Features tailored to the local market
Produced at the Chennai plant, this “made in India” Duster stands out with a slightly raised ground clearance compared to its European counterpart. This feature is particularly appreciated on the often poorly maintained Indian roads. In terms of equipment, the new Duster is generous: it offers premium options such as a panoramic roof, a revamped dashboard, and improved upholstery. Additionally, we should not overlook the 17 driver assistance features that enhance safety and driving comfort.
Technology and powertrain
On the technological front, this model takes a step into the future with integrated Google command services, allowing for increased connectivity. The hybrid powertrain also constitutes an interesting novelty that could appeal to environmentally conscious customers. However, no specific technical specifications have yet been disclosed regarding the range or performance of this hybrid version.
Marketing and expansion
The launch of the New Duster is scheduled for this spring in India, before a possible introduction to other markets such as South Africa and Gulf countries. Prices will be announced later, but competitive pricing can be expected, given the other models already present in the Indian market.
An expanded range to entice
In India, the Duster will complement an already rich offering consisting of other SUVs such as the Kwid, the Triber (a compact 7-seater SUV), and the Kiger (a 5-seater coupe SUV). Renault thus demonstrates its willingness to expand its footprint in a booming market, where the demand for SUVs is on the rise.
