Just arrived in the world of MotoGP, Toprak Razgatlioglu is already turning heads. By participating in the shakedown at Sepang, this Turkish rider, who has moved from WorldSBK to a Yamaha from the Pramac team, has revealed promising performances. His speed and professional approach even surprise the most skeptical.
A High-Pressure Shakedown
Before the big official test that will bring together almost all the riders, a small group had the opportunity to participate in a three-day shakedown last week at Sepang. Among these lucky ones was Toprak Razgatlioglu, a true phenomenon in motorcycling, who is already attracting attention even before he has started a race in MotoGP. Riding a Yamaha from the Pramac team, he must familiarize himself with a bike that is radically different from those he has ridden so far in WorldSBK.
A Delicate Transition for Yamaha
This integration is all the more complex as Yamaha is currently undergoing a major transition, moving from a four-cylinder inline engine to a V4. This change comes with a development phase that promises to be long and laborious, especially with the high demands of MotoGP. In this context, every lap on the circuit is crucial for Razgatlioglu, who must not only master his new machine but also adapt to an unprecedented competitive environment.
Impressive Performances
The initial feedback on Razgatlioglu’s performances is quite encouraging. Gino Borsoi, the director of the Pramac team, expressed his surprise at the speed and quick learning ability of his new rider. “Toprak has never ridden here, it’s a difficult track, but he has already managed to turn in 1’58. Hats off! Honestly, I didn’t expect him to start off like this right away,” he confided to GPOne.
During the shakedown, Razgatlioglu gradually improved his times, gaining eight tenths on the second day and another three tenths on the last day to reach a personal best of 1’58″465. This time places him 0″775 behind the first Yamaha in the standings, that of Fabio Quartararo. “Every time he takes to the track, he lowers his time and understands something new,” Borsoi added.

Challenges Ahead
Despite these encouraging performances, Borsoi remains realistic about the challenges that await Razgatlioglu. “It is clear that he needs to modify certain things. The front tire is different from the Pirelli he was used to, that’s for sure. We also need to work on long race management, as tire wear can greatly influence the bike’s performance,” he explained. This adaptation phase will therefore be crucial for the Turkish rider.
An Exemplary Attitude
Beyond his performances, it is also his attitude that impresses at Pramac. Upon his arrival at the Valencia test last November, Razgatlioglu had already made an impression by bringing baklavas for his entire team. This kind of gesture, combined with his discipline and professionalism, makes him a valued teammate. “I discovered a very well-mannered boy, like Jack [Miller]. They are both very professional,” Borsoi emphasized. A rare quality among riders, especially those who already have an impressive track record.
Toward a Promising Future
As MotoGP prepares for a new season full of twists and turns, Toprak Razgatlioglu seems to be one of the riders to watch closely. His performances during the shakedown at Sepang have already generated excitement, and expectations are high regarding what he can achieve on the track. For motorcycle enthusiasts and thrill-seekers, this season promises to be captivating, and there is no doubt that Razgatlioglu will make headlines.
